Answers about the Mercedes me Adapter.
Which topic do you have questions about?
The Mercedes me Adapter consists of a device and software. The device, the Mercedes me Adapter, is inserted into the vehicle’s diagnostic connector (the so-called “OBD2 socket”) and then connected to the smartphone via Bluetooth®. This allows various information to be read from the vehicle. Based on the data that is read, various safety, service and mobility functions can be used through the Mercedes me Adapter app.
The app is available free of charge from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store.
Use of the Mercedes me Adapter is free of charge. Standard landline or mobile call charges apply to phone calls made from the app. Depending on your mobile phone contract, downloading and transmitting data may incur charges.
The Mercedes me Adapter can be used with many non-connected Mercedes-Benz models from model year 2002 onwards. You can see the compatible models and model series in the table below[1]. The list of model series may vary from country to country.

The requirements for using the Mercedes me Adapter are:
A compatible smartphone (see the “Adapter App” section) running iOS 10 or Android 5 or later
A Mercedes-Benz vehicle from a compatible model series and production period
Mercedes me Adapter app (available free of charge from the Apple App Store or Google Play)
Mercedes me user account (registration at www.mercedes.me) with acceptance of the Terms of Use
Mercedes me Adapter (available exclusively from Authorized Mercedes-Benz Repairers)
Activation of the Mercedes me Adapter services by an Authorized Mercedes-Benz Repairer upon presentation of a valid identity document and the vehicle registration certificate.
The following data is transmitted to Daimler AG systems: vehicle identification number, total mileage, fuel level, remaining time, remaining range, workshop and service code, and possibly the control unit software version number. Transmission of this data is necessary to inform you about the current status of your vehicle and to send you suitable maintenance offers. Daimler AG does not create movement profiles based on the transmitted data. Your location data (if available) is transmitted only when you call customer service in the event of an accident or breakdown. Your personal data, such as trip or refuelling lists or the Driver Score, is stored only locally on your smartphone and is not forwarded to Daimler systems.
Data read from your vehicle via the Mercedes me Adapter or information you save is not synchronized with the Mercedes me Portal; it is stored only locally on your smartphone. You can view the data in the Mercedes me Adapter app.
One Mercedes me Adapter can be used in several compatible vehicles. The vehicle must first be linked to your Mercedes me account by an Authorized Mercedes-Benz Repairer. After disconnecting the Adapter and connecting it to another vehicle, you must repeat the commissioning process.
Yes, you can use your Mercedes me user account for the Mercedes me Adapter and add your vehicle provided that it is compatible with the Adapter.
We considered data protection from the design stage of our connected services and developed our systems and services so that data protection is ensured.
The car of the future will be a digital companion, which means that it will not be enough for it to be safe in terms of driving and operation; its data must also be secure.
Daimler AG does not create movement profiles from Mercedes me services. With regard to data protection, we comply with applicable legislation; even access to data by public authorities is permitted only within the framework of that legislation.
In addition, the processing of personal data at Daimler is governed by a “Group Policy for the Protection of Customer and Partner Data”, which is based on globally accepted core principles and ensures a uniform, universally applicable standard of data protection and security.
Within the Mercedes me services, personal data is collected and personal data is also generated. This is done on the basis of contractual terms or customer consent. The collected data is stored in encrypted form. In addition, the customer can deactivate the Mercedes me Adapter services they use at any time.
We implement technical and organizational security measures to protect user data against unauthorized processing, loss, destruction and access by unauthorized persons. The security measures are continuously improved in line with technological developments.
The Mercedes me Adapter enables many model series from 2002 onwards to become part of the connected world of Mercedes me, even if the vehicles were not originally connected.
The Mercedes me Adapter is an accessory that has been tested and approved by Daimler AG (including crash tests and electromagnetic compatibility tests). This eliminates the risk of damage to the vehicle and loss of warranty due to use of the Adapter.
We accept no responsibility for the safety of third-party products.
You can obtain the Mercedes me Adapter exclusively from Authorized Mercedes-Benz Repairers – the corresponding app is available free of charge from the Apple App Store and Google Play. In addition, the Adapter’s functions and services are continuously developed and adapted to the wishes and needs of a modern, connected driving experience for your Mercedes.
The app is available free of charge from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
The app is available for the following smartphones:
Apple: operating system from iOS 10
Android: operating system from version 5.0
Smartphones with root access or Jailbreak (unlocking the operating system) are not supported for security reasons.
With the Mercedes me Adapter and the app, you benefit from the following services, among others:
Information about the current vehicle status: fuel level, mileage, parking location and parking duration
Car park finder with information about prices, opening hours and availability
Fuel station finder: search for the nearest or cheapest fuel station (in Germany)
“Cockpit” mode with “live” vehicle data, e.g. engine load, oil temperature and remaining range
“Car Health Monitor” for quick assistance when warning messages are issued by the vehicle
Trip log and refuelling log with export function
Find an Authorized Mercedes-Benz Repairer, contact them and book an appointment
Reminder function that reminds you of important appointments, such as the general inspection
After installing the Mercedes me Adapter app, you can use only some of the functions. To use all of the app’s functions, you must obtain an Adapter and commission it. Please contact your Authorized Mercedes-Benz Repairer.
At the end of each trip, a data package is sent to Daimler AG systems. The volume of this data package is very small. You can therefore expect only a few MB per month. Mobile data is used for the fuel station/parking space finder functions so that you can view current information.
First, make sure that Bluetooth® pairing with the Mercedes me Adapter was successful and that your smartphone is connected to the MB xxxx Adapter. The Bluetooth® function on your smartphone must be activated. The Mercedes me Adapter must be within range. An internet connection is also required for commissioning. If you continue to experience problems starting the app, please contact customer service.
If the Mercedes me Adapter was disconnected, for example after a scheduled service visit, it must be commissioned again. If you uninstalled the app or use it on another smartphone, you must also repeat the commissioning process.
If one or more trips cannot be merged, there may be gaps between those trips. Two trips can be merged only if the total mileage at the end of the recorded trip corresponds to the total mileage at the start of the next trip. In addition, you cannot combine private and business trips.
No, merged trips can no longer be separated into individual trips.
The CSV file that you can create from the “My trips” function may contain gaps or may have been edited afterwards, so it cannot be considered a valid trip log. However, the table can be used as documentation for a trip log.
First, check the app settings. There you can see whether location services are enabled and for which app functions. Location services must be enabled for the “Parking & finding”, “Refuelling” and “My trips” functions. In addition, location services on the smartphone may be disabled either generally or only for this app. Another possible reason why the information is unavailable: at the start or end of the trip, you stopped at a location where positioning was not possible, for example in an underground car park.
When you drive the vehicle without a connected Mercedes me Adapter or there is no connection to the smartphone, for example if Bluetooth® is switched off, trips are not recorded. This can create gaps in the list of recorded trips.
If your vehicle’s fuel level has reached the reserve range, the exact level can no longer be calculated. In this case, you therefore need to enter the refuelling amount manually.
For manually entered refuelling stops, the entered location is not displayed on the map because the location field is not limited to addresses. For example, you can also enter information such as “on the way to work”. Such locations cannot be displayed on the map.
The Mercedes me Adapter app is the only app intended for use together with the Mercedes me Adapter. The other Mercedes me apps are for vehicles produced with an already installed communication module and are therefore not compatible with the Adapter. The range of app functions may differ because the two solutions are based on different technologies. In general, the difference between the Mercedes me Adapter and Mercedes me connect vehicles is that the Adapter communicates with the smartphone via Bluetooth® and does not use a separate SIM card. Therefore, when the vehicle’s ignition is switched off, the Adapter is not active and remote services such as locking/unlocking the doors or programming the auxiliary heating system are not available.
The Adapter can be used without restrictions while driving abroad provided that data roaming is enabled – which means that use may incur the usual roaming charges. However, the Adapter can also be used without an internet connection. In this case, though, there may be limitations, for example GPS coordinates may not be converted into address information.
On iPhones, this message appears whenever a Bluetooth® device wants to communicate with the smartphone (hands-free systems are excluded). If the app is already active on the phone (in the foreground or background), the Adapter establishes a connection even if this message is not confirmed. Your trips and refuelling stops are recorded. However, if the app has been closed (for example by “swiping it away”) or the phone has been restarted, this prompt must be confirmed so that the app can open and communication with the Adapter can be established.
To better understand our customers’ preferences and further develop the app, we analyze anonymous app usage data (using Adobe Marketing Cloud). If you do not want information about your app usage to be stored and analyzed, you can deactivate and reactivate this function at any time under App Settings > Usage data recording.
The Mercedes me Adapter is compatible only with approved Mercedes-Benz model series.
The Mercedes me Adapter app works only with the Mercedes me Adapter.
Please contact a participating Authorized Mercedes-Benz Repairer and ask about the Mercedes me Adapter.
The Mercedes me Adapter is an accessory that has been tested and approved by Daimler AG (including crash tests and electromagnetic compatibility tests) for compatible model series. Connecting the Mercedes me Adapter to the diagnostic connector (the so-called “OBD2 socket”) essentially ensures that
no malfunctions will be caused in the vehicle systems,
the starter battery will not be discharged,
the emissions inspection information will not be lost.
Supplementary Instructions for Use are included with the Mercedes me Adapter. Please keep this document together with the vehicle’s Instructions for Use.
To use the Mercedes me Adapter, you must have the Mercedes me Adapter app installed on your smartphone and have commissioned the Adapter.
Yes, you can. However, make sure that the vehicle’s ignition is switched off.
You can obtain the Mercedes me Adapter exclusively from participating Authorized Mercedes-Benz Repairers.
Commission the Mercedes me Adapter again by selecting “Add vehicle” in the app. The commissioning process is shorter, and you can quickly use the Adapter as usual again.
The Mercedes me Adapter is an accessory that has been tested and approved by Daimler AG for compatible model series. Extensive technical and organizational security measures are implemented to protect against unauthorized processing and access by unauthorized persons. These include, for example, linking your vehicle to your Mercedes me user account by an Authorized Mercedes-Benz Repairer and activating the Mercedes me Adapter through a guided process within the app. The security measures are continuously improved in line with technological developments. The Mercedes me Adapter uses the Bluetooth® standard to transmit data to the smartphone. A hardware solution with a separately integrated mobile communications module was deliberately not chosen because it would result in additional costs for you and require an additional contract. In addition, you can better monitor data usage from your smartphone and configure the corresponding settings.
As the main user of a vehicle with a Mercedes me Adapter, you can use user management to invite other people to become secondary users of this vehicle. To do this:
Go to the Mercedes me Portal, click “Your vehicles” and select the relevant vehicle. Then click “Manage secondary users” in the “Mercedes me connect” section. Using the “Invite secondary users” function, you can send an invitation to an email address. Both you and the person you invited are notified by email. The invited secondary user can accept the invitation by clicking the corresponding link in the email.
The secondary user must now recommission the Adapter with their smartphone by disconnecting and reconnecting the Adapter. The Adapter can then be commissioned using the “Add new vehicle” function in the Mercedes me Adapter app.
Once the secondary user has completed this step, they can also use the Mercedes me Adapter in your vehicle.
Only the main user can invite secondary users.
After the main user invites the secondary user, the secondary user must accept the invitation via the link in the email. The secondary user also needs a Mercedes me user account and must download the Mercedes me Adapter app from the App Store or Google Play. One Mercedes me Adapter per vehicle is sufficient for multiple users.
The secondary user must also commission the Adapter for use. To do this, they must disconnect and reconnect the Mercedes me Adapter so that their smartphone can be paired with the Adapter. The vehicle can then be added to the app using the “Add new vehicle” function.
The secondary user can use all functions of the Mercedes me Adapter app. Their personal data (e.g. trip list) is stored only on their smartphone and is not transmitted. Only the main user can receive maintenance offers, invite additional secondary users, and activate or deactivate the service.
At the end of the trip, the vehicle values displayed on the “My vehicle” page are stored in the backend system and exchanged between users.
The contents of the “Parking & finding”, “Refuelling” and “My trips” functions are not synchronized. In particular, data about identified locations is stored only locally on the smartphone on which it was recorded.

People with medical devices, e.g. a pacemaker or defibrillator: when using the Mercedes me Adapter, a wireless connection is established between your smartphone and the Adapter. Electromagnetic radiation may affect the operation of medical devices. Risk of death! Before operating the Mercedes me Adapter, be sure to ask your doctor or the manufacturer of the medical device about the possible effects of emissions from the Mercedes me Adapter.
The use of mobile phones is strictly prohibited at fuel stations. There is a risk of explosion because if the mobile phone is dropped, the battery may come loose and sparks could ignite petrol vapours. Removing and/or installing the Mercedes me Adapter is prohibited in areas with fuel tanks.
Refrain from any modification, recording and/or reconstruction of the software and from any unauthorized processing of code relating to the Mercedes me Adapter and the app. Risk of injury!
Smartphones with Jailbreak (unauthorized removal of usage restrictions imposed by smartphone operating system manufacturers) are not supported and are generally excluded from use.
We reserve the right to make technical modifications and to correct errors and/or deviations!
